Real estate and apartment locators

From Lemons to Legacy: Real Estate, Apartment Locating & Family Hustle

September 23, 20253 min read

You know that saying, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade”? Cute, right? Except nobody talks about the part where you’re broke, stressed, and staring at those lemons like,

“Cool… but where’s the sugar? The pitcher? The fridge space?”

Yeah. That’s me right now.

Our living and financial situation isn’t exactly Pinterest-perfect, but instead of letting it "sour" 😜 me, I decided to squeeze the heck out of those lemons. But guess what? They’re turning into something surprisingly sweet: a brand-new chapter in my real estate career and, even better, a family hustle I never saw coming.

A Brokerage Switch with a Twist

Changing brokerages can feel like jumping out of a plane and praying your parachute isn’t just a backpack. But this move? It turned out to be exactly what I needed.

This new brokerage doesn’t just focus on traditional real estate; it’s also big on apartment locating. Mmhmm, so now I can help people find homes and apartments, which is basically like doubling my agent toolbox. For someone working with relocating clients, that’s a game-changer.

Instead of having to say, “Sorry, I only work with Buyers & Sellers,” I get to say, “Let me find you the perfect apartment now and help you buy your dream home later.” That’s some long-game lemonade.

The Family Factor: Kids in the Hustle

Here’s the sweetest part of this story: my two oldest kids are stepping into the game with me.

Right now, they’re working as property locators (no license required). That means they’re learning the ropes, getting a taste for the industry, and basically shadowing me until they’re ready to get licensed themselves.

So while I’m holding down the residential side, they’re jumping into apartment locating, and together, we’re turning this into a family business. Think of it like Shark Tank, except with fewer sharks and more late-night brainstorming sessions at the kitchen table.

Relocation Clients = Sweet Spot

Another unexpected blessing? Relocation clients.

These are folks who don’t just need a home, they need someone who gets the chaos of uprooting life and starting fresh. Apartment locating makes their transition smoother. Residential sales build long-term relationships. Together, it’s the perfect blend of quick wins and big-picture goals.

In other words, I finally found the sugar for my lemonade.

The Recipe: How to Make Lemonade Out of Lemons

Here’s what my lemonade looks like:

  • A brokerage that gives me flexibility.

  • Kids who bring energy and fresh eyes to the hustle.

  • Apartment locating + residential real estate = double the opportunity.

  • Relocation clients who remind me why I love what I do.

Do I still have bills and struggles? Absolutely. But I also have vision, momentum, and a legacy in motion. That’s the kind of lemonade no store-bought mix can touch.

From Lemons to Legacy

At the end of the day, this isn’t just about real estate. It’s about showing my kids what it looks like to keep going even when life squeezes you tight. It’s about turning sour seasons into sweet futures.

The truth? Life’s lemons never stop coming. But with the right mindset, the right people beside you, and the right opportunities, you don’t just make lemonade. You make a legacy.

So tell me. What lemonade are you brewing in your life right now? 🍋✨

Lastly, if you or anyone you know is looking for a new home or apartment, send them my way! I can save them a ton of time and stress. 👇🏽
